You may be thinking to yourself ‘what’s so great about advertising on Snapchat?’. Every day, millions of people use Snapchat which makes it an excellent avenue to consider when you’re thinking about promoting your business on social media. Think of your demographic

Here are the facts. According to Omnicore, 75% of Snapchat users are under the age of 34 years old and roughly 90% of the app’s users are between 13-24 years of age. So, what does that tell you? Your audience is going to be young (mostly millennials / centennials). Snapchat users are mostly female as well. Only 38% of users are men and the rest are women. If these statistics are in your ballpark demographic, Snapchat would be a great marketing opportunity for your brand. You don’t really want to be advertising for an older, mostly male demographic if they only make up around 25% of Snapchat’s audience.

What are you advertising?

As mentioned above, Snapchat has a few ways to advertise on it.

  1. Link people to your website – If your goal when advertising is to generate more traffic for your website, Snapchat provides a way for users to see your ad and swipe up to visit your website right away without having to leave the app.
  2. Get your audience to visit your store or location – With this feature you can simply play a quick 10 second video clip or ad to get people to visit your business.
  3. Get people to download your app – This is really awesome if your selling or promoting an app for your business. Similar to how the first option works, an ad for your app will play and it gives viewers the option to swipe up which directs them quickly to the app store to download it (on iOS or Android devices) again, without leaving the app.
  4. Have a business profile – this is a great opportunity to humanize your business and have fun with your audience. By making a business account, people can choose to follow you and you can post fun/relatable content for your followers and post cool benefits like discount codes promotional updates or events. When promoting events or the location of your business you can also add Geotags to your posts as well, so people know where to find you (and usually they’re fairly low-cost features to add).

There is a bit of a catch with Snapchat though – your advertising needs to be really quick. You need to get the attention of your viewer within the first couple of seconds, otherwise, they’re going to skip by your ad.
