When it comes to deciding your social media advertising and marketing strategy, things can sometimes get a little overwhelming with all the options in front of you to figure out which will work best for your business. Take Facebook for example. It has proven itself to be an amazing marketing tool for businesses, but where do you start? What is and isn’t going to work for your business to help you generate ACTUAL SALES? Do you really need a MASTERCLASS? Do you believe what that guy in the video claiming he will show you how to put THOUSANDS IN YOUR BANK ACCOUNT? Before you start blowing your budget on Facebook advertisements and boosting social posts, you need to understand the differences between the two.

What does ‘boost a post’ mean?

When creating a Facebook post on your business page, it will give you the option to ‘Boost Post’. When you boost a post on Facebook, you’re spending money on delivering or ‘boosting’ that post to a wider audience of your choice. After boosting a post, it will appear on a user’s newsfeed as a “sponsored post” or advertisement. Even though it was a post – meaning you picked an image, you added some text and you posted it to your Facebook business page, after your boost it, it is then considered an ad due to revenue spend on the post. Essentially you are paying to show your ad to more people with limited targeting options to try and reach the right people.

What is a Facebook advertisement?

A Facebook ad is created through the Facebook Ads Manager and unlike a boosted post, offers more customization options to help you better reach your marketing goals. With Facebook ads, you can optimize for app installations, website conversions, video views, online shop orders, and more. You’ll also get a lot more statistics in the analytics section that shows you things like how much you spent to get each sale, how many unique accounts your ads reached, how many times each unique user you targeted saw your ad, and how much of the video (if you used one) was viewed before the person clicked to your website or didn’t.

Which is better to use to grow your business?

The question here really isn’t “which one is better than the other?” but rather “which one better suits your marketing goals?”. If your goal is to increase brand awareness or increase a post’s likes and engagement, boosting a post is the right choice for you. If your goal is more complex such as increasing website conversions or you want people to buy more in-store or in your online shop, then a Facebook ad is the better choice for you.
